I think I might buy a paint but I want to no if she she can compete in a jumping show or dressage. Thanks for the help! :)

Rather than looking at her color (which doesn’t matter in terms of ability) I’d look at her conformation, attitude, willingness, etc. She can show with her coloring, but not if she can’t get the job done! Good luck!

  1. Sure.. most shows don’t have color requirements.

  2. as long as the shows are all breed shows, not breed specific or color specific. most jumper & dressage shows let in any breed

  3. The coloring wouldn’t matter. It would be the capability and training of the horse. Maybe if you showed us what you were buying, we could answer you better.

  4. Yes! There are no restrictions whatsoever about a horse’s breed or color in jumping and dressage. They are based on ability alone.

Yep. paints can actually be pretty good jumpers, but it really depends on the horse and the training. Sometimes they are frowned on in hunters though. but if you like the horse dont worry about breed. a lot of paints actually showed up in my search for a jumper.

  7. Well… can he jump or do dressage?

  8. definitely, although if you are planning on showing in hunter classes the judges sometimes are prejudice towards the "traditional" colours. But that shouldn’t stop you, a lady at our bard has a paint and he cleans up hunter classes along with jumpers and equitation.

  10. There is no reason why coloured horse can’t compete at show jumping or dressage. These classes are not breed or colour specific.

Attached is a photo of a top South African Show Jumper, Cara Frew cpmpeting on her Warmblood Paint. As you can see by the jump it isn’t small. She competes in 1.4m or 1.5m classes. They competed at the 2009 South African AVIS derby. One of the most prestigious and hardest Show Jumping courses in SA. This year had only 3 clear rounds and only one double clear. Of the three horses that went clear, only 2 were warmbloods and one was a Thoroughbred.

  11. Yes, jumping or dressage is not judged on what color or breed your horse is
