How about you don't breed them and go rescue a draft cross foal so it doesn't have to go unwanted or worse slaughtered? There are so many unwanted horses out there and people just keep breeding to get the same breed they could have rescued. What if something goes wrong and you have to put down your mare? Are you willing to risk that? If you want to actually breed then go out and study up on the topic and work on a farm where they breed so you know what to do. But in my honest opinion DO NOT breed them. RESCUE a horse, save a horses life. What happens if sometime in the future the economy worsens or the foal becomes hard for you to handle? Are you just going to give it up? Or are you willing to hire a trainer? There are so many things that go into considering breeding a horse. Think of all the horses that were backyard bred because they though the two would make a cute foal. But something came up and could no longer care for the foal and neglected it. Anything can happen don't think that it won't because it never has while owning your horses now.
References :
horse owner

Yep, we have one at our barn. He is 1/2 paint and 1/2 belgian. My personal opinion on this is not to breed at all. There are so many unwanted horses out there why make more? I am sure you could find a nice one for almost nothing.

I have a 1/2 thoroughbred 1/2 belgian.
References :
Sure. However, keep in mind draft horses and draft crosses have knee problems when cantered alot or are expected to do alot of collected work, they were bred to pull and that's what they're good at.

But your mare will be fine, the size of the mare's uterus determines the size of the baby.

If you're thinking about breeding you should know this, and there is too many unwanted horses out there to be breeding for any reason. Please reconsider.
References :
The size of the sire shouldn't have any affect on the mare's ability to give birth to the foal without problems.

What's more of a concern: the mating of horses that are very dissimilar in conformation tends to produce offspring that just aren't very well conformed. Most successful horse breeders will tell you that they try to avoid mating horses that have extremely dissimilar builds, because the offspring tend to not be very well built. The ideal is to get offspring with the best characteristics of both parents, but when you breed horses that are extremely different, you're more likely to end up with offpsring that are mediocre in build.

You might be better off trying to breed your mare to a stallion that's closer to her conformation than a draft horse would be. Chances are you'd get a better-conformed offspring.
References :
Probably. Although unless she's a very fine boned paint, you're going to end up with a spotted tank of a foal...
References :
Studies have been done to prove that you can cross any size stallion with any size mare. The mare's uterus restricts the size of the foal until it is born, when it grows to its full potential (usually halfway between the height of the mare and the stallion).
References :
Most likely. People cross drafts and other horses all the time. If your mare isn't a pony, or a very small horse, I'd say she'd be fine, but you better ask the vet what they think.
