Theres a small town with a bad reputation about 20 minutes from where I live, and every time I’m over that way I see these 2 horses in this tiny quarter- or half-acre pasture with barbed wire (i think) on the fence and it makes me sick. They look so skinny and scraggly, and I want to do something about it. I plan on making it a point to drive over and look just a little closer, but what is real cause to call humane society. And if the poor animals were eventually removed from the practically in-town property, would there be a way for me to take one or both horses to my barn and nurture them. Also, are there grants or funding available in helping with this. Anyone with this kind of experience, I would really appreciate some insight and help in figuring this out. I’ve got 2 horses of my own now, and my first horse died in january, old and skinny, so i know some horses are just skinny. I don’t want to cause problems, I just want what’s best for the animals. Thanks!

you will remain anonymous, i called before about 2 dogs, they came the next day and took them.

the lady emailed me to show me they are at a nice home now. also tell them you’d like to care for them, it can be arranged!!

  2. I think you should go ahead and call the SPCA. If the horses are able to get well again, they will probably be put up for adoption, then you can tell them you want them.

  3. Call the humane society and they will investigate, they will be able to find out of the horses are just old and skinney or if they are malnurated. It doesnt hurt to ask and find that they’re ok, rather than not ask and wonder if they’re ok. Perhaps you can start by going to the owner’s house asking them about their horses saying that you feel the horses need a grooming and if its ok with them you would like to groom them. Ask them if they’re having trouble feeding them due to finacial failure, offer to help them care for the horses, if you find the owner is just mean and abusing them, then you definatly should call the humane society.

  4. Call the local humane society, or if you have animal control in your town call them. They will come out for sure. Hope this helps.

  7. I would call the ASPCA in your area and just ask to be anonymous. Let them know you are concerned, you are a knowledgeable horse person, and that you have your own barn. Don’t say anything about wanting to take them yourself yet because they might think you just want the horses. I have called before about a large barn in my area but nothing was done. I can at least say I tried though which makes me feel better then doing nothing.

  8. If you see no hay around, thats a reason to call. If there is even one bale, they will not repo the horses.

You really need to make sure these aren’t aged horses. Ask neighbors and see if they know the history on them.
