How much does horse training cost?
admin on August 11th, 2010
So my parents are thinking about getting me a horse but he will be green broke, How much would training cost, because I don’t know how to finish training a horse.
Pricing varies tremendously; you should get a list of local trainers and call several of them and find out specifically what they charge and how the pricing is structured.

around £80-£100 a week all in.
depends on how much work the horse needs
if this is your first horse you would be better off with something older.

well im gunna give you my advice first. if he is your first horse i dont care how many stable lessons you have taken you dont need a green broke horse that is a recipe for disaster. you need you a good stable horse because im gunna tell you i have seen it happen more times than less i train horses and you get and inexperienced horse owner/rider with a high strung green broke horse and somebody is gunna shut down. sometimes its the horse sometimes its the rider. my suggestion would be to look for maybe like a middle aged (10 or somewhere around there) docile stable horse until u get the hang of owning a horse cuz u gotta remember its not just the riding you will have to watch out fr that high spirit at. its feeding time its ground work trailoring them leading them its everything. now ive broken horses that practically skipped that crazy green broke stage and pretty much went strait to stable but you want a horse that you can learn and grow on and feel comfortable and safe on. then get a horse that you can teach because it doesnt matter how much you spend gettin him trained u can undo ever bit of training they put on him if u dont know what your doing with him. im not being harsh or anything im just saying, ive seen it happen too many times.

If this is your first horse, I highly recommend getting something a little older and well broke. You will have more fun and won’t have to worry about correcting silly behaviors that a green horse would give you. It may take some time until you can actually have a good time riding the horse and not have to worry about him taking off with you! (it all depends on the temperament of the horse) However if after seeing the horse, you absolutely fall in love with him, you should seek some riding lessons and a very knowledgeable trainer. It is said that novice riders should never be paired with green horses, but I’ve seen it done before. Just make sure that you take good riding lessons from a well-known trainer. In riding lessons don’t go for a bargain either, you want some good quality riding lessons that will do both you and the horse good for the rest of your lives. Ask some horsey friends if they know of any trainers in your area that have good riding lessons. Maybe you and your friends could even take some together! Go and watch your horse being trained so that you can use the techniques the trainer uses when you are on your own, and spend as much time with your horse as you can! Some horses will be an angel for the trainer, but the devil for you! Ask the trainer to teach you the techniques she uses to get the horse to respond. Consume as much info as you can and even take some notes to refer back to if possible! Trainers can cost little, to a fortune, but sometimes a spendy trainer will be for the better in the long run. Just make sure you watch her train your horse and get involved with the training as much as possible, so you know your not getting jipped! Have fun with your new horse! Happy Trails!

Years of reading up and consuming as much info as I can about everything horse! Also being around horses and riding, dealing with a few green horses
The price depends on how long the horse will be in training and what it’s being taught. Also it depends on the trainer and how much they charge.
To find out you can call some local trainers you are interested in and talk to them and get an idea of the cost.
