best way to advertise a horse for sale?

admin on October 30th, 2009

I have a horse that i need to sell, and i was wondering what the best way to advertise her would be? Thank you!

I’ve tried the internet and you have to sort through a LOT of tire kickers! Typically I sell my horses (When I HAVE to sell one!), to folks in my area who know the horses.

Dreamhorse.com, Craig’slist.com (In YOUR area) and local free horseadd papers.

Make sure your horses are turned out properly when you show them to perspective buyers and be upfront about any quirks or soundness issues. Lastly, price the horse accordingly, remember the horse maybe worth a million bucks to YOU, but a buyer probably won’t look at him/her that way and will want to make the best deal they can.

  4. Try joining some Yahoo horse groups (groups.yahoo.com) and advertising there, or search Yahoo or Google.com for "horse proboards" Proboards is a website thing where people make websites there, look for horse ones and sometimes they let you advertise there. I hope this helped!

  5. Dreamhorse and any equestrian journals in your area (for instance, we have Flying Changes in the PNW.) Word of mouth, too!

  6. Put an add everywhere you can. Internet sites (all of them), your local newspaper, in your tack shop. Also, if you have videos and pictures, post it on youtube as well, people have sold them there as well. Good luck!

  7. A local paper that has lots of horses/livestock for sale. In new england (maine) we have Uncle Henrys. Unclehenrys.com It’s free to post an ad online (and shows up immediately) or $3.00 to mail one in for the next weeks paper edition. Make a cute little postcard with a real photo and info about her and post it at local tack shops. (with their permission) Even some stables may let you post it in their barn (horse people talk, and if someone is looking for a horse word will get around!) There are lots of horse websites out there (such as horsetopia.com) but usually horses sell better when they are posted locally, because most people don’t want to travel out of state. Good Luck!
