I know that horses used to populate the Western Hemisphere, but I’m not sure when. There was a time period when they died out and then afterwards horses were brought back to the Americas via the Spanish Conquistadors. So, were horses there during Jesus’ time, or did they die out far sooner than that?

The last prehistoric North American horses died out between 13,000 and 11,000 years ago, at the end of the Pleistocene, but by then Equus had spread to Asia, Europe, and Africa. Then as you say, they were reintroduced by the Spaniards.

I have a ton of model horses that I need to know the brand of. They are plastic in all different colors, and each one has two sideways horseshoes in silver looped together that are in a circle printed on it’s butt. Does anybody know?? Thanks!

I think it’s grand champions.

I am looking for some good suggestions about jobs. I love horses and I want to work with them. I thought about becoming an equine vet but im not sure that’s for me anymore. I have 13 years of experience with horses. I want a job that pays good money but I will also have time to spend with my family.

horse training
Horse breeding.
Selling equipment, saddles, bridles and etc.

Every time I break a horse, it ends up being a slow horse. I’ve heard that the Kentucky Saddler (golden Horse) is the best. And that’s the one that Bonnie gives you when you start to break other horses. When my mom plays she says you have to kill them to get your other horse. So, she takes them out to a lonely feild, gets off the horse, wistles, and then shoots the horse in the neck. Please tell her she’s wrong and you can get the horses another way.

you can get another horse a diff way you can get em when ur in some towns u will see an icon of a horse and u have to train a horse and once ur done youll keep it

We weed killed out fields two and half weeks ago! Any advice on how long our horses should be kept of it?

It will vary dependant on the weed killer used, you are going
to have to find out what was used and what instructions
regarding animals. There is no general rule on this so you
must be sure.

I have an assignment that asks us to tell them what we would do to graze a 5 acre paddock with 2 horses. I have decided to take the blocks into acre blocks and use rotational grazing and cross grazing by grazing the horses, then resting, then sheep, then resting for two intervals before the horses come around on the circuit again. I’m stuck on how long I should graze the horses, and on what pasture I should use. Any suggestions. When the horses are grazing I don’t want them to completly strip the acre in the interval the have

It all depends on soil and climate conditions. There are places where an acre per horse is enough to graze AND make hay during ideal weather. Other places have a minimum of 10 acres per horse, or are just inhospitable.

Talk to your local horse people and (if in the US) your County Extension Agent or local agricultural college. They will know the conditions and grazing density for your area.

Another consideration for keeping horses on small acreage – if they have a big square area, they are less likely to move around and get exercise, than if it’s a long narrow shape of the same square footage/acreage. Check out Jaime Jackson’s book Paddock Paradise. He advocates creating a track system rather than keeping horses in a simple open area. By putting hay at one end and water at the other, it encourages movement that keeps a horse muscles, cardiovascular system, joints, and hooves fit.

But none of that applies directly to this assignment – just putting it out there.

How many horses would be needed to start a small part time horsemanship school?

I want to teach people classical Sikh warfare including how to fight on horseback, but this is not really going to be a full time job. Although I realize keeping even a single horse does take a considerable amount of time. How many horses would I need to begin with?

That is a neat idea and I would probably take a seminar or two…but I cannot ride a horse LOL.

You should begin with one horse and as you build your business add more. Horses cost a lot of money to raise and take care of. My cousin has been breeding horses for 19 years now and he said for the cost of owning a horse five years you could put your child through college. You may want to consider how to support the horse part of this with an alternate income.

I have a 13 hour trip to Montana to make with 2 horses (we are moving). How long do you think I can drive before having to give them a break? Plus, where do you usually stop to do so? I have searched for websites on horse friendly rest stops and can’t find any. Thank you!

I have shipped show horses all over the country. A 13 hour trip can be made in one day.

I am not sure what a "horse friendly rest stop" is. I do NOT recommend taking your horse off the trailer during the trip, unless you are going to stable overnight somewhere.

When you stop for gas offer your horse a drink of water & make sure he still has hay. Some people bring water from home, some people use whatever water comes out of the hose at the gas station.

The longest trip I have made with horses that did not include stabling overnight was 22 hours.

My horses hair sticks, i mean her actual coat, not her mane, i need it to lay down today, please help!
She has her winter coat and isn’t rugged (hoping to get one very very soon).
Sorry, i meant sticks up.
I live in Australia, it is really cold right now!

Winter coat? You must be on the complete opposite side of the world, it is mid-summer here lol.

Why do you need it flat? Winter hair is supposed to stick up to trap heat to keep her warm.

Are you going to a show? If you are showing either use show sheen to keep it down or else clip her and get a winter blanket for her to wear at home.

Edit—-

Australia? yep, I live in the U.S.

I live in Texas we have land, I have 2 horses and a mini donkey. They are un trained until later this summer, I am curious of what others may be feeding and how often etc? Looking for ideas thanks

I know the horse barns here at my college feed Alfalfa hay, a couple flakes per paddock a day, depending on how many animals are in there.
