How far would you travel to heal someone you love? An intensely personal yet epic spiritual journey, The Horse Boy follows one Texas couple and their autistic son as they trek on horseback through Outer Mongolia in a desperate attempt to treat his condition with shamanic healing. When two-year-old Rowan was diagnosed with autism, Rupert Isaacson, a writer and former horse trainer, and his wife Kristin Neff, a psychology professor, sought the best possible medical care for their son—but traditional therapies had little effect. Then they discovered that Rowan has a profound affinity for animals—particularly horses—and the family set off on a quest for a possible cure.
The horse Boy is part travel adventure, part insight into shamanic tradition and part intimate look at the autistic mind. In telling one familys extraordinary story, the film gives voice to the thousands who display amazing courage and creativity everyday in the battle against this mysterious and heartbreaking epidemic. The filmic companion to Isaacsons best-selling book of the same name and a festival favorite, this ravishing documentary odyssey gives insight into how, in lifes darkest moments, one can find the gateway to joy and wonder.

I’m about five foot one, weigh 149 pounds (about 11 stone) and i’ve been riding for a while. I like horses with a fun and firey temperment and I am willing to put time into breaking a horse. I ride english and I am interested in working on the show jumping discipline. What breed and height is best for me?
I am not a fan of haflingers, though I don’t dislike them. I do prefer larger horses, from about 15.2 hands and up, but I am not picky.
I suggest thoroughbred. I’m short like you and I strongly prefer larger horses like you. But to own a large for your first would be very diffucult. No matter how fit you are, sometimes a horse is just too tall if you dont have steps. Thoroughbreds have a good fiery temper, but are at a reasonable large height without being too large and are good for english style’s.
I’m in the same situation as you
so say someone is around 210-220 can i horse handle it? just a question
To make it easy a very simple guide is to take the horse’s weight and divide by six to give you the total weight, including rider and tack, the horse can carry. Given this, a 1200 pound horse could carry up to 200 pounds. 6 divided in 1200 = 200
Another quick and popular method is to use the 20% rule. You take 20% of your horse’s body weight and the result is the amount of total weight your horse can carry. For example, a 1,000 pound horse should easily carry 200 pounds of rider and tack. The 20% rule typically applies to competitive or otherwise "hard" riding. For pleasure riding, many use a 30% rule, so this 1,000 pound horse could carry 300 pounds for shorter pleasure rides.
