Points when showing at an Arabian Horse Association recognised show?
admin on November 30th, 2009
I didn’t even know you could get points in AHA until recently because I don’t show breed shows (I do eventing/jumpers). But I also recently found out the one of the AHA recognised shows in my area is going to be doing jumpers this year…
So how do points work? And what are they for?
points determin different things in different shows. Over all if you show a few shows over the summer they’ll count up all the points you have and you win/place if your at the top. At the same time they also have that at each breed show, so you go into 5 classes and get points for those, if you have the most then you get best in show award at the end of the show.
That’s the basic idea.

Basically, each ribbon you earn is worth a certain amount fo points. At the end of every show, they add up your points from the ribbons you earned and keep it on file. Then at your next show, they will take the ribbons you won, and tally up the points, then add those points to the points from the previous show. This will continue until the end of the year, when there will usually be a banquet of sorts, to reward the top six riders in each division. The top six are determined by the number of points you earned throughout the year.
At our shows, this is how it works:
first place = 10 points
second place = 6 points
third place = 4 points
fourth place = 2 points
fifth place = 1 point
sixth place = .5 point
champion = 20 points
reserve champion = 12 points
So if at one show, you won a first, a third and a fourth, and reserve champion, you would just add up all those points. Its 28 points. And then at the next show, if you got a first, second and fifth and champion, you would add those up and get 37 points. Then you just add the 37 from that show to the 28 from the previous. And you get…..ugh too much math! 65 points!
I’ve had about five shows this year, and all my points tally up to about 163. I’m in first in my division so if I stay in first after my next show, I win champion of the year in my division. You understand?
Its pretty simple once you figure it out.
However, the AHA shows, may have different point values than my shows, it just depends on the circuit.
Hope I helped! Best of luck!
