We from Adalberti are proud and honored that we are in the position that we may offer you this and other exquisite horses from this breeder.
Back in time, somewhere around the XIII century Spanish knights began to practice bullfighting on horseback. These shows were an opportunity for them to prove their courage against a bull in front of a huge crowd and their fellow comrades. It became very popular in the times of king Felipe IV. Later on in the XVIII century in Spain this art called “El Rejoneo” (bullfighting on horseback) started losing strength while it remained very popular in Portugal. Therefore nowadays bullfighting on horseback finds longer roots in Portugal than in Spain. Portuguese Horses (”Lusitanian”) are nowadays most popular in the world of Bullfighting. According to insiders, no more than 2 out of 10 Carthusians and Lusitanian are good for bullfighting and this is why this horse is so special.
The Pure Breed Spanish Horse (”PRE”) was indispensable for those knights that risked their lives proving their courage against the bulls but also at war. For this they breed a Carthusian horse with special capabilities. These horses are not afraid of anything and can create the deepest bond with the rider till the point where horse and man becomes one. Important celebrities like Napoleon and others who could afford them soon realized the potential of the Carthusian horse and made it their favorite. That’s why the Spanish horse is known everywhere as the horse of the kings. Professional breeders and people with passion for the Pure Breed Spanish horse have been taking care of keeping this unique breed alive and tried to keep it as original as the times of Napoleon. In Spain Today 100% Carthusians are without doubt the purest and more original Spanish horses. Although there are many Carthusians for sale in all price classes, some even come with a certificate, only few breeders have succeeded in maintaining and reproducing the most exquisite qualities that have been subscribed to the Spanish horse and for which it was so famous and wanted all over the world. The farm from the horse in this horse video is an example of a traditional family that managed to achieve this.

Lets say you had a bunch of horses. How many could you keep in a 1 acre paddock for 2 days, moving them to a fresh 1 acre paddock after that time and repeating the process? And how long would it take the pasture to recover afterwards?
In terms of grazing…
The idea is that the horses always have access to good grazing, don’t trample the grass so much that it won’t recuperate and aren’t sitting in their own manure all the time.
I know that people say it is about one acre of good grazing per horse per year. At my old boarding barn the horses were kept off pasture until late spring when it dried up. There were 5 horses and the grass was about 2 ft. high when they were turned out.The pasture was divided into 3 areas 2 were about an acre and a half and the other close to 2 acres but with poorer grazing. In approximately 2 weeks they needed to be put in a new section originally then about a week after they had used all 3 once because the grass wasn’t recuperating fast enough. Now at my own farm we have close to a 2 acre section for my horse and llama and it took them only about a month to clean up the grass in it. Mind you it was getting late in the fall and the grass wasn’t long to begin with.
Does anyone out there use gaited horses for dressage? Obviously you wouldn’t use their special gaits, but I just wonder why I hear a lot about, say, Lusitanos in the dressage arena but not Paso Finos.
EDIT – Sorry, I didn’t make myself clear..I know Lusitanos aren’t gaited. But I was of the impression that Pasos and Lusitanos are both a Spanish "baroque" breed.
Lusitanos are not gaited, Pasos are ( neither are Andulusians, which are closely related to Lusitansos.) It’s difficult to compete in dressage with a naturally "gaited" horse ( such as a paso or a fox-trotter) because thier natural gaits do not correspond to the gaits desired for Dressage competition ( flat four beat walk, four beat cadenced trot etc) and since they are natural gaits for these breeds, they are difficult to "train" out.
Are they laid back or quite fiery like a thoroughbred or warm blood?
it varies according to the horse. just like any breed you will find complete nut cases and you will find ones so sweet it’s unbelievable. It also depends on the way they were trained. my paint mare is a doll to be around , her 1/2 sister is a total ***** go figure. Like I said it all depends on many circumstances
i need a mini mare for a good price. show quality but not super expensive. probably around 500. thanks!
