How do you stop a runaway horse?

admin on November 28th, 2009

I was just wondering what you’d have to do to stop such a horse. I saw one recently and the rider was screaming and shouting for help and the horse was just bolting towards on-coming traffic as fast as it could and I’ve no idea what happened because horse and rider were out of sight in no time at all. So, how would a runaway horse be stopped?

To stop a runaway horse you sit back in the saddle and turn the horse sharply to one side. Hold the rein of choice short and hang on. By shortening the rein on one side you are very effectively making the horse turn in a tight circle. They HAVE to slow down. If you can’t get them slowed that way you had better know how to make an emergency dismount. Also, if you are on the ground and a runaway is fast approaching , wave your arms vigorously. This will turn the horse away from you and hopefully keep you from being run over. horses cannot see directly in front of or behind them.

Is it true that horses could attack enemy soldiers by biting and kicking? Were they trained to rescue their masters if they were wounded or fell down?

Middle Ages in Europe did not have fighting training for horses, not when they had to gallop with armour and armoured man on their back.
Later, when the armour disappeared horses were taught war moves, which are now showed as spectacles by such school as the Spanish school of Vienna. All those moves are in fact war moves, back kick, rearing, cabriole… (see the links) to be done when the rider give the right signal to the horse.
Horses are not intelligent and aggressive enough to go to the rescue of their riders, especially in the middle of a noisy scary fight. Without a rider to direct them horses listen to their instinct and run away. And a badly trained horse will not even listen to his rider and run away with his rider still on his back. That’s called take the bit between his teeth.

i’m just watching the horse riding in the olympics and some of the movements seem a little unnatural – do horses enjoy the competition, in the same way that gun dogs enjoy working to please their owner or for edible rewards – or are they forced/ trained to perform.

Opps the movements are suppose to look Natural,, because that ‘isn’ts what Dressage is all about,,
I will say you have a good eye ,
If it does not look Natural and looks like a horse is having a tough time preforming them.. Then I would say that horse does Not like his work,or what ever the reason is,
Good eye !
Now if you see ones that glide’s across in a Brilliant extended trot and EARS are forward,, Thats a pretty picture ..And does his movements with ease Every one even a non horse person will see it,,

If You see the rider That does NOT have to use so much restraint and so much leg, and looks like he is doing more work then the horse well That to is a nice picture

Some movments You will see the horses ears back , do not confuse that with a bad mood
he is litisining to his rider ,,
If he carry’s his ears mostly forward and NO swicthing of his tail He is having FUN ,

Just because this yr WE MAY NOT have the best to show you doe’snt mean there all the same,, Some yrs riders are better some are worst

I have seen the best, One is ,,
U.S.A rider Christian Traruig is the best Dressage rider we have ..

MY GOSH WATCHING HER AND HER HORSES WILL MAKE YOU Just cry with Joy ,, But she not in it this yr ""

sales tax on horse?

admin on November 23rd, 2009

I’m in the process of purchasing a horse from WI. Will I have to pay sales tax?

I don’t know. If you buy a pet from a pet store, you normally have to pay sales tax. If you are buying your horse from a business, then you would probably have to pay sales tax.
