Can my horse infect other horses with strangles if he was boarded on a farm that had an outbreak?
The outbreak was a month ago and infected horses are almost recovered. My horse did not get sick, but can he be a carrier? And if so, how long would he need to be quarantined before leaving?
My horse is 18 yrs old. If he has an immunity to strangles, can he still pass the organism to other horses, or does his immune system destroy it so he is not a carrier?
It is always a good idea to isolate any horses that have come into contact with the infected horse, since the signs of the disease often manifest themselves days to weeks after the initial infection.
Your veterinarian can perform a swab of the nasal passages, throat, or abscess of the suspect animal in order to test for the Streptococcus equi bacteria.
I hope this helps =)

why do dressage horses carry their tail up?
Dressage maneuvers require a horse to be in a very "collected" state. Their tails help them balance. It’s like when you are walking on your tippy-toes or traversing something very narrow and you bring your hands up to help you balance.
I want to know if there are horse sales in Arkansas and where at in Arkansas
http://www.horsewelfare.net/auctions.htm Here’s a list of auctions that sell horses…. just scroll to your state and then do a google search on the auction’s name.
They’re not all slaughter auctions on that list, though- I just looked at my home state and they had the biggest slaughter auction in the region listed, as well as a higher-end auction where horses rarely sell for less than $10,000
okay, so I’m trying to think of a good paint horse and quarter horse ranch name.
Please help!
Okay, I guess I’m not clear I mean qh and ph RANCH NAME.
Also, it doesn’t have to do anything with qh or ph.
My awnser has nothing to do with the horses really, but paints are always pretty so you should call the ranch Pot Of Gold!!!
Aside from Egypt where else can I buy an arabian horse and how do I go about sending it to Nevada?
I wanna buy an arabian horse for my older brother.
arabians are all over, if you are looking for a specific bloodline you can search through the arabian registries. if not you could check out www.horsetopia.com or www.equinehits.com . they are both good horse searches.
I’ve been having trouble getting my horse to change leads, and sometimes he doesnt even pick up the right lead to start out with. What is the best/easiest way to train him to take the right lead? Also, on a slighly different note, what exersizes work well with horse riding? Like, what will build up the right muscles and stuff? I’ve been getting tired faster then I want to and I was wondering what I could do to get in better shape? Any ideas would be great!! Thanks so much!
Lead Changes. If it was me i wouldn’t worry much about teaching him lead changes, that will come easier after he has figured out the command to get the right lead. the best way to get him to get the right lead is to make sure you over exedurate the command. Make sure your outside leg is behind the girth and your inside leg at the girth. Also make sure he is bending to the inside not just with his head but with his whole body. It is best to ask on a corner that way his balance will be better if he picks up the right lead so he is more likely to.
About the exercises one of the best things you can do is to have good hand control. not for muscles but so that your had can be light and very still while riding. work on getting your left hand just as easy to use as you right. try writing left handed and things like that
Hope this Helps
support Sarah Palins values, how many will vote for her just because she is hot?
Only the extreme right support her values to any extent. She got the nomination to tighten up the support of the extreme right.

My family is getting an exchange student, and she loves horses. Our horses are either green or barrel horses, and we want her to be as safe as possible. So we would really love to suprise her with a broke horse that is on the cheeper side, so she has something to ride for the ten months she is here, and once she leaves my brothers girlfriend, can use. So let me know if you have a dead broke cheep horse for sale near shasta county, in California. THANKS!!!!
Contact your humane societies, they’re aware of any larger livestock that may need help, from abandoned livestock, abuse cases, or whatever. They can put you in touch with someone if there’s a horse on their list.
Also contacting any farm vets would be a good call, they’d be in the phone book.
I have been working with horses for a few years and now I really want one of my own. I know all of the work and expenses that are included. I have been researching Friesians, I know expensive right, but I believe they are worth the money. Please any Friesian owners out there tell me about owning one first hand and if it would make a good first time horse?
I think the whole breed preference is almost like racism. Every horse is an individual just as people are. Not all arabians are smart, not all drafts are calm, and not all Quarter horses are perfect for ranch work.
When looking for a first horse, look at the horse’s training – does it do what you want it to do? If not, how much time, money, etc will it take to get it there? Then how is the horse’s conformation? It may be the best trained horse in the world, but if it’s not built to do what you want it to do, it’s going to have physical problems down the road. Next, is the personality. Do you get along with this horse? I’ve known some really great horses, that I jsut did not like. We couldn’t connect, and thus could never really reach our potential. I’ve had to resell several horses, do to conflict of personality. Other personality traits you should look at is how personable is this horse? Do you feel safe having friends or family around it, or is it a one person horse? Just some things to keep in mind…
I would love to recommend a breed (I have a favorite just like anyone else) but there are always going to be exceptions to the rule. So look at the individual, not the breed, and you might be surprised by finding the perfect horse in a breed you weren’t expecting.
